Urban Meyer recently agreed to become the new head coach at The Ohio State University. The deal is for a reported 7 years and $40 million. Meyer left Florida after the 2010 season citing health concerns and wanting to be around his family more. He has been successful everywhere he has coached including Bowling Green, Utah and Florida and will surely be successful with the Buckeyes. As a Florida State fan, I was happy to see him leave Florida because FSU just couldn't beat them. As a Michigan State fan I fear the same type of results. I can't help but think of all the Florida fans sitting around scratching their heads. Did he really leave due to health problems and wanting to see his family more? Did he love Tim Tebow so much that he didn't want to rebuild the Gator "family" after he left?
It appears that he has stepped into the perfect situation at OSU. He will take over a program with a ton of talented athletes. They have a freshman quarterback who is a dual threat option (ala Tebow and Chris Leak). He grew up in Northern Ohio so he should be able to recruit the state and with his ties to the Southeast, he may be able to lure some of the talented players bound for SEC schools like Alabama and LSU to Columbus. The real questions are, who will be his assistants, will his offensive system work in the Big Ten, and can he beat Michigan. As a Buckeye coach, if you lose to UM, you will be considered unsuccessful. No matter how many games you win (ask John Cooper).
If Urban Meyer can get the skilled position players like he had at Florida, the Big Ten is in BIG Trouble for the foreseeable future.

Paterno no more
Joe Paterno has decided that he will step down at seasons end. If it were up to me, he would be done now. No one, and I mean NO ONE, gets a pass when it comes to the health and safety of Americas children. Paterno was informed years ago that his former assistant, and heir apparent, was seen in the shower at Penn State with a 10-year-old boy. He passed that information along to the athletic director and that is as far as he took it. The AD did nothing and now the whole nation is shocked and appalled that something so heinous could go on for so long. 9 people have come forward so far and who knows how many there actually are. Penn State put the University and the football program ahead of the children and for that, everyone involved should go down. Starting with Sandusky, the president, the AD, the assistant that witnessed the act in the shower, and Paterno. He says he wishes that he had done more. Hindsight is 20-20 but those kids will be affected for the rest of their life. An apology and feeling bad for them and their families just doesn't cut it. He shouldn't have any say in when his last game will be. He should be fired immediately. I don't care that they are having a good season and are leading the Big Ten. I don't care how long he has been there and how many games he has coached and won. Most of all I don't care about what his legacy will be. He is in the wrong and should pay.
Sandusky abused all those boys and the University swept it under the rug. Karma will catch up with him. Inmates don't take to kindly to child molesters!
